The joke
The whole sketch hangs on one word, 稳定, “stable.” Dawei hears it the usual way: a big company means a steady job. Kevin means something else, his 身份, his immigration status. For many people on a work visa, a large employer is attractive because it can sponsor a green card and carry the long process to the end. The punchline flips the word: the thing Kevin counted on to stay put, the policy, moved first. Dawei answers only with a phone and a pat on the shoulder.
The real news behind it
On October 8, 2026, the U.S. Department of Labor suspended Microsoft, Adobe and six IT services firms (Cognizant, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, HCL and Capgemini) from the PERM program. PERM labor certification is the first step of most employer-sponsored green cards. CNBC reported that the department will not accept new PERM applications from these companies, that Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling cited “multiple active federal investigations” for Microsoft and Adobe, and that the suspension does not affect H-1B visas.
Immigration lawyers at Wolfsdorf Rosenthal and the immigration service Boundless wrote that pending applications from the named employers are paused as well, that no end date had been announced, that reporting did not indicate any other employer was affected, and that it was not yet clear how cases already certified, or with an I-140 filed, would be treated. If you work at one of these companies, your employer's immigration counsel is the right place to ask about your own case.
How this episode was made
3D animation in 16:9 widescreen, 28.4 seconds long. It reuses the office pantry set from earlier episodes, and several shots start from frames already made for one of them; the new lines were generated as fresh clips. Both characters are AI voices. The script was revised on the day it was published and then locked word for word. The phone screen is not AI video: it was drawn frame by frame as a plain news card with the headline, date and source in text, and no logos. The episode was published the evening of October 9, 2026 (US Eastern time) on Douyin and Xiaohongshu, labeled as AI-generated, with the disclaimer below in the description and on the end card.
Note: Characters and dialogue are fictional. The news concerns the pause on PERM labor certification applications; it does not mean that all green card routes or current statuses are no longer valid.
